Hello Fellow Modelers!

This email is to inform the group of a change of location for our monthly group meetings and the shift in meeting day this month. We will now be meeting at:

“At Ease Games”
8990 Miramar Rd #140
San Diego, CA 92126

Although Game Empire has been good to us, we really wanted a location that would allow us to bring food into the meetings and better foster an environment for building models. We feel we have found that at this new location. “At Ease Games” provides an open food policy, a larger and nicer location, and a building room in the back.

Also, due to Mothers Day falling on our standard meeting day (May 11th), we have elected to move the regular meeting this month to Sunday, May 18. However, a few folks are still planning on showing up to the new meeting location on the 11th for an informal get together – so feel free to come by and hang out. The standard second Sunday meeting date will resume next month on June 14th.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!

Excellent Article on Painting and Finishing Models

cpit6

At our last meeting I spoke to the group about an article I ran across about finishing and painting. It is from 2001, but I feel it is one of the best finishing pieces I have ever read. Lots of good gems on painting techniques…particularly if you like using the Gunze Mr. Color Products. It is a three part series and worth the effort to read. So for those who requested it her you are!

Part 1 – Cockpit Painting
Part 2 – Model Construction
Part 3 – Painting and Finishing

I have started playing with some of these finishing techniques and have been very happy with them. It seems like both the Mr.Color and Tamiya paints behave very similarly when you thin them with the Mr. Color Self Leveling Thinner. Dan over at Discount Hobbies says he well be stocking the Mr. Color SLT and I know I will be stocking up for the future! Just remember to wear a respirator and have plenty of ventilation because it is essentially a lacquer thinner.

Trumpeter 1/350th scale kit being built out of the box. She is a little something different. Her purpose, to carry 2 15″ guns. The kit looks pretty good in the box, accuracy?? I’m not sure how good it is for that, but knowing Trumpeter, there are some issues I’m sure. But the camo and uniqueness […]

Ok I have talked to the t-shirt company. We can do multiple colors as long as the design and ink are the same. I am guesstamating the shirts are going to be about $25.00 each. I would like to use a different shirt because the Hanes beefy t’s didn’t fit well. I will bring my […]

Work continues on the Berg, cockpit is partially installed, the decaling started with that nice camo print. I was wondering where the machine guns were on the kit sprue, well, I found them molded to each side of the fuselage…… yuk, add a barrel once it is glued up. I guess it will be ok […]
