About Us

The Secret Society of Model Builders is a plastic scale model club in the San Diego, California Area.  Come out and join us!  It is just a bunch of people who love building and talking about models.  

The Secret Society of Model Builders meets the SECOND Sunday of EACH month.  Our doors open aprox. 6PM and meeting runs until about 9PM. (some meetings will go longer some may go shorter, it is up to us)

We meet at The Game Empire.

Dues: Adults are asked for $5 dues per month to help support the rent of this facility and purchase things for the club.
(Please ask to see the by-laws and treasury statement anytime you have a question about dues or money)

      The final portraits. Airfix, 1/72 scale, Mig-29, Air Force of Bangledesh. Done, fun kit…… Next up in Part Two will be ICM’s kit of the Mig-29 and probably in the markings of Bangledesh’s enemy. Myanmar, also a three color camo. Two blues and the final color a blue-green.

      OK, after I hand brushed 2 coats of future onto the model it was decals time. This aircraft is from the Air Force of Bangladesh. Why? Because it had the 3 blue camo. Crap, about here I noticed I had forgot to mask and spray the nose and the antennas on the leading edge of the wings and tail!! Out came the Tamiya masking tape for a fun paint add on!! Don’t kn

      Painting and masking begin for the three color camo scheme. A first for me was trying to accent the panel lines on this kit, I used a dk grey Gundam paint marker. They are .03mm wide, as I sprayed one color over the markers when dry I masked for the next color and then re-drew the panel lines to be spayed the second color, and again for the third color. Done

      In the construction pictures you can see the level of detail the kit has, and the amount of puttying that had to be done. To be fair, I did step on this kit and I know it caused some warped parts, so I am not sure how much putty would be needed on a kit not stepped on. more to come,,,,

      After re-reading “Red Storm Rising” by Tom Clancy, I got interested in the Mig-29 aircraft. So, I picked up the Airfix (newish tooling) and the ICM kits of the Mig-29 in 1/72 scale, why airfix and ICM? I read an online review of the Italeri and Hasagawa kit and to the reviewer they both had many flaws, and I had no access to the Fujimi kit. The Airfix kit wa

      I’ve been away for awhile but I,m back. Here are some shots of my latest piece. It’s a 1/10th scale German Panzer Sgt. I did the figure using leftover sprue, melted and shaped. It’s painted in oils, but painting not a strong suite for. Hope you enjoy would like to here any comments
